ABOUT ASTRO CAMP

Starscapes is organizing an Astro Camp for astronomy enthusiasts, from June 12 to June 30. This 19-day camp is being held at Mukteshwar, Uttarakhand. With the last month of clear skies before the monsoons, Starscapes aims to get as many tourists to experience the universe in a way they never have!

ABOUT MUKTESHWAR

Mukteshwar, a hill-station town in the Nainital District of Uttarakhand, is a popular and growing tourist destination in the Kumaon Himalayas. Perched at 2,171m above sea level, the town enjoys pleasant weather in the summers. Historically known for and named after the Mukteshwar Temple, the town was chosen as the site of a massive animal research facility which later became the Indian Veterinary Research Institute. It featured in the literary work of Jim Corbett, who was a frequent visitor to the town.

Thanks to the elevation of the town and the scarcity of commercialization around it, the place is ideally suited for stargazing. It is Class 3 on the Bortle Scale, making the skies fairly dark for even deep sky photography.
